Apple announced the latest version of the iPhone 4 this week, adding a host of new features while at the same time addressing criticisms of the older iPhone’s as well. There
is however a lot of competition so we’ve decided to put this blog together to help you decide between the latest smartphones.
Key Features of the new iPhone 4
· Better Camera (5 mega-pixel & LED Flash)
· HD Video Recording
· FaceTime (aka Video Calling)
· iBooks
· Better Battery Life
· New Scratch resistant glass body
· New faster Apple A4 processor
With the new iPhone 4, the biggest talking point has been the display. Apple have been criticised for using the same display since launch, while the competition moved on to better displays. This is something Apple have fixed with their new iPhone 4, with a new display technology they call “Retina Display”. If you look close enough at your TV or phone screen you’ll see it’s made up of lots of pixels. This means that images onscreen (particularly text) can look jagged and unfocused. Apple claim to have remedied this problem with their “Retina Display”. They have in essence crammed as many pixels as possible into the screen area, so you can no longer see the individual pixels. The result is sharper crisper text, and more detailed and clear pictures. Think of it as comparing a HD TV to a standard definition TV.
The big question is how the iPhone 4 compares to the competition? We’ve created the below table for you to see how it compares:

What’s clear is while there is a lot to like about the Apple iPhone 4, especially the amazing display, the camera and video abilities are in-line with other phones, but no better. Today’s top end devices are able to pack 8MP & even 12 MP camera’s with Xenon flashes (the same ones used in digital cameras )which perform much better in poor light then LED versions .
However camera aside, the iPhone 4 is an amazing device, with an excellent web browser, perfect integration with iTunes for music and video playback. Add to that Apple’s incredibly easy interface and one of the best range of apps currently available and the iPhone 4 is a hard device not to like. It fixes almost all of the flaws of the original. However photo’s and video’s are your priority one a phone, then we’d suggest looking elsewhere.
At eXpansys, we treat the safety of our customers with the utmost concern. In recent days, there have been many press releases and blogs regarding recall issues with the Novatel MiFi 2372. The Bell version was recalled, followed shortly by the Rogers version of the mobile hotspot. There were some issues in earlier versions of this device with the battery door being very difficult to remove. Because of this some users were using sharp objects to open them, resulting in damage to the battery, leading to potential leakage or explosion. The moment we heard about this, eXpansys was in touch with our contacts at Novatel to see what action should be taken. As of today May 6th, we have been assured by Novatel that all units of the unlocked version of the MiFi 2372 are not affected by this recall. These units were manufactured after the Bell and Rogers units, and ship with the reworked battery door already included.
